Contact Adhesive 281 is an easy-flowing, neoprene-based adhesive for bonding dense surfaces with immediate high strength. It’s ideal for wood, plastics, rubber, leather, and more. Water-resistant and heat-resistant up to 70°C, or 150°C with added hardener.

Dana Lim Contact Adhesive 281

Size: 40ML Tube

Contact Adhesive 281 is a versatile, neoprene-based adhesive specifically designed for applications requiring the bonding of dense materials and surfaces where immediate high strength is essential. Its easy-flowing formulation allows for smooth application, making it suitable for both professional and industrial use, as well as for DIY projects that demand durability and precision.

Key Features:

  1. Neoprene-Based Formula: Contact Adhesive 281 is formulated with neoprene, a synthetic rubber known for its high flexibility, excellent adhesion, and resistance to various environmental conditions, including moisture, chemicals, and heat. This makes it ideal for a wide range of surfaces that require strong, long-lasting bonds.

  2. Immediate High Strength: One of the standout characteristics of this adhesive is its ability to form a high-strength bond almost immediately upon contact. This makes it perfect for applications where time-sensitive, secure adhesion is necessary, reducing the waiting period associated with many other types of adhesives.

  3. Wide Range of Suitable Materials: Contact Adhesive 281 is particularly well-suited for bonding a variety of surfaces, including:

    • Wood, such as plywood, fibreboard, and chipboard
    • Plastic laminates, commonly used in cabinetry and countertops
    • Rubber, both natural and synthetic
    • Leather, for upholstery or automotive use
    • Foam materials used in insulation and cushioning
    • Felt, used in crafts and industrial settings
    • Concrete and metals, where strong, permanent adhesion is needed
    • Glass, making it ideal for decorative or industrial applications However, the adhesive is not compatible with polystyrene foam (commonly known as Styrofoam or Flamingo), as it may cause deterioration of the material. For such applications, DanAtac Aqua Contact 288, a water-based alternative, is recommended.
  4. Water Resistance: Contact Adhesive 281 provides a durable bond that is resistant to water, making it suitable for outdoor use or environments exposed to moisture. It ensures the integrity of the bond in humid conditions, adding to its versatility.

  5. Heat Resistance: The adhesive can withstand temperatures ranging from approximately -35°C to +70°C, depending on the load and strength requirements of the application. As a thermoplastic adhesive, it becomes more pliable at higher temperatures, which may reduce its bonding strength in extreme heat.

To enhance its performance under high temperatures, the adhesive can be mixed with Contact Hardener 924. By adding 5% of this hardener, the heat resistance of the bond increases significantly, withstanding temperatures up to approximately 150°C. This makes it suitable for applications involving exposure to intense heat, such as in industrial settings or environments with high thermal demands.

Application and Usage Guidelines:

  1. Preparation: Surfaces should be clean, dry, and free of dust, oil, or any contaminants that could compromise the adhesive’s bond. For optimal results, lightly sanding non-porous surfaces is recommended to increase adhesion.

  2. Application: Apply the adhesive evenly to both surfaces to be bonded. Wait for the solvent to evaporate until the adhesive becomes tacky to the touch. Once tacky, press the surfaces together firmly. The bond forms almost instantly, so accurate alignment is essential.

  3. Curing Time: Although the adhesive offers immediate high strength, full bond strength is typically achieved within 24 hours. The curing process can be expedited by applying heat, especially when working with materials that demand higher bond strength.

  4. Limitations: Contact Adhesive 281 should not be used on polystyrene foam or other highly porous materials that may dissolve or become damaged due to the solvent in the adhesive. For such materials, a water-based alternative like DanAtac Aqua Contact 288 should be used.

Ideal Applications:

  • Woodworking and Furniture Assembly: Contact Adhesive 281 is widely used in woodworking for bonding wood, chipboard, and plastic laminates. Its fast-setting nature allows for quick assembly and durable results.
  • Automotive Industry: Its ability to bond rubber, leather, and foam materials makes it ideal for automotive upholstery, trim, and interior repair.
  • Construction: The adhesive's strength and durability are perfect for construction tasks involving concrete, glass, and metal bonding.
  • Crafts and DIY: Contact Adhesive 281 is also popular in DIY projects where strong and immediate adhesion is necessary, such as in home repairs or crafts involving a variety of materials.
